Title: Diapers and Wet Wipes Investigation
to Start in July
Safety investigation process to be made
public on SNS after safety survey
The Korea Food and Drug Administration
(KFDA) said on Tuesday it has selected diapers for
children and wet wipes as the first target
of inspections for the national petition safety inspection system.
The National Petition Safety Inspection
System is a policy to examine the petitions recommended
by many people in order to reduce anxiety
in daily life and disclose the whole process through
KFDA podcasts and social media.
For diapers, there were 19 types of
irritants that may result in skin irritation such as fluorescent whitening
agents and formaldehyde; while for wet wipes, 13 substances such as heavy
metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates were discovered. These were found in basic
testing after which additional test items will be decided for future testing.
The inspection process and results are
disclosed through podcasts and social media.
If the violation is confirmed, the
collection and disposition of the products concerned are
followed by administrative measures.
Ryu Young-jin, the chief of the KFDA, said,
"We will resolve public anxiety through
the National Petition Safety Inspection
System, and we will ensure the safety of
medicines in a way that is centered on the
people at a national level."
